District Primary School Council (DPSC), Purulia

The District Primary School Council (DPSC) of Purulia has played a crucial role in ensuring universal access to primary education in the Purulia district since 1978. Its location is at Hill View Ground, adjacent to Purulia Shikha Bhawan, Dulmi-Nadiha, in the town of Purulia. Presently, the office operates under the leadership of Sri. Rajib Lochan Saren (MLA-Bandwan) as the Chairman and Dr. Proloyendu Bhoumik, WBES (District Inspector of Schools, Primary Education), as the Secretary of DPSC. There are 3064 Primary Schools spread across 45 circles, employing 7634 teachers.

A significant number of students studying in Olchiki medium have benefited from 25 Olchiki Medium Primary Schools, allowing them to study in their mother tongue. Concurrently, Bengali, Hindi, and Urdu medium schools cater to students who prefer to learn in their native languages. Under the guidance of this Council, Gobindapur Primary School in Manbazar – I Circle, Gundlubari Primary School in Hura – III Circle, and Kanchanpur Primary School in Arsha – II Circle have received the Jamini Roy Puraskar (Best School of State Award) in different years. Additionally, several Primary Schools in the queue have met the required screening criteria and are prepared to contend for the Jamini Roy Puraskar.

The primary objective of DPSC, Purulia, is to offer quality education to over 241,000 students enrolled in various government-aided Primary Schools. The holistic development of students, including engagement in physical activities such as sports, holds immense importance in all schools. This year, Purulia secured the third position in the State Level Sports Meet held at Jalpaiguri, organized by the West Bengal Board of Primary Education.
